Our speaker today is Celeste Compion from Meerkat Quilting in Elora, Ontario.

Celeste will share her lecture "My Quilting Colour Journey",  which explores how she learned the use of colour as it applies to quilters, employing colour theory to expand her confidence in making fabric and colour choices.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, to a family of creative makers, it’s no surprise that Céleste Compion loves all kinds of quilting, especially hand quilting and slow stitching with scraps. Her adventures in scrap quilting have uncovered the world of colour and she enjoys sharing her learning with other quilters. 

She has been published in the Canadian Quilter magazine, taught at Quilt Canada in 2023 and 2025 and presented online in QUILT2024, as well as Quilt n Learn 2025.

Celeste, from Meerkat Trading in Elora, Ontario, is recognized in many countries for her Meerkat Three Cats original Shweshwe Fabrics.These traditional 100% cotton prints evoke many memories for Celeste, where as a young child she visited the fabric warehouses of Cape Town with her mother.
