Guild Vision, Mission & Values
Vision: Waterloo County Quilters’ Guild promotes the art of quilting.
Mission: Waterloo County Quilters’ Guild fosters all styles of quilting for it’s members and the community at large, through lectures, workshops, shows and philanthropy.
Values: Waterloo County Quilters’ Guild provides education to its members and guests by offering speakers and workshops throughout the year.
The Guild encourages its members to participate in the philanthropic practice of donating quilts and quilted items to various organizations either through the guild or privately.
Waterloo County Quilters’ Guild promotes an inclusive, respectful, and safe environment for all members to learn and grow.
Waterloo County Quilters’ Guild provides opportunities for its members to volunteer to help strengthen the guild.
The Guild provides opportunities for members to showcase their talents.
Waterloo County Quilters’ Guild conducts business without monetary gain to any member with the exception of guest speaking and teaching as stated in the Standing Rules.
Copyright Statement
The Waterloo County Quilters' Guild encourages its members to educate themselves on how copyright laws affect their use of patterns, books and images. It is the responsibility of each member to respect other artists' creative rights. As part of its educational mandate, the Guild makes available on its website links to sources of in-formation that will assist members to find relevant information about current copyright law and related issues.
Quilt Shows and Show And Tell: It is the policy of the Waterloo County Quilters' Guild to protect the copyright of all artists exhibiting in its Quilt Exhibits and at its Show and Tell. Every effort will be made to address the following:
• Acknowledgement: each quilt will be labelled clearly acknowledging the artist, inspiration of the work and all participants in its construction.
• Infringement: works recognized as infringing on copyright will be rejected from guild exhibits.
• Photography:
Show and Tell: Please refer to the above note on copyright when taking photographs of quilts.
Quilt Exhibit: Each exhibiting artist in our Quilt Exhibit has given written permission for his or her work to be photographed by the Waterloo County Quilters' Guild to use for promotional purposes and by the general public for personal or non-commercial purposes only. Visitors to the exhibitions will be clearly informed of this policy.
Ownership of WCQG Quilts
From time to time, the Waterloo County Quilter's Guild Executive and or its members may undertake the making of a quilt to be donated, raffled or used for any other purpose deemed appropriate by the guild. The creation of the quilt may require voluntary donations of time, money, creative efforts such as pattern-making or quilting or other resources on the part of members. While the guild may call upon members for these personal contributions, the ownership for the quilt at all stages of its creation is solely that of the guild. and the guild will not reimburse any member for any resources used except for those approved by the executive.
Conflict of Interest Guidelines
These guidelines have been developed over a period of time by members of the guild executive based on input from our members. They are in place so that all members are treated fairly and consistently. We would appreciate each of you taking the time to become familiar with these guidelines and we ask that you abide by their intent and spirit.
Members who own or are involved in a quilting-related business may place advertisements in the guild newsletter at current pricing and subject to space limitations, which is at the discretion of the newsletter editor, with the executive having final approval. A listing on the Quilting Professionals page of the website is available at no cost. Please contact the website coordinator (Kathy Bissett).
Members who own or are involved in a quilting-related business are asked to refrain from promoting their business and business related activities during guild activities, such as Show & Tell and Program, unless a special shop presentation has been arranged. However they are encouraged to place their brochures by the bulletin board during guild meetings.
