GUILD MEETING: Lori Dickman

We are excited to have Lori Dickman as our May speaker, for her lecture, Scrap Overload: Four Fast and Easy Methods to Use Up the Scraps”. Playing with fabric and color has been Lori’s passion since she was a young girl. She began her journey as a “maker” in her early teens sewing her own clothing and then sewing bridal ensembles. However, once she found ‘quilting,’ she absolutely fell in love and hasn’t stopped creating quilts since the mid-1980’s! Although she worked a full-time job as administrative secretary, she always made sure to fit in ‘quilting’ time whenever possible. She began lecturing and teaching at quilt guilds in 2015. In 2020, Lori retired and has been able to enjoy teaching, designing, lecturing, and quilting on a full-time basis! She also began teaching on YouTube in 2022 so she could share her love of quilting with the quilting world!

Over the last few decades, Lori collected a very large and wonderful stash of fabric. She started working on solutions to use up those scraps to make beautiful quilts. She devised her own set of techniques that work well for her and decided to share her methods with other quilters.

In Lori’s books, lectures, workshops, and YouTube Channel, she teaches her “©Speedy Solutions” techniques: her scrapping rules, her tools of the trade, how she sorts & identifies value, and all her

speedy methods of turning an unorganized stash of wrinkled scrap fabrics into a beautifully organized stash of fabric ready to be USED to make great quilts!

Lori’s quilts and garments have won awards in contests around the country; and six of her Art Quilts have been traveling in National Quilt Exhibits. Three of Lori’s quilts have been featured in the 2024 and the 2025 AQS QuiltArt Engagement Calendar, compiled by nationally recognized quilt show judge, teacher and educator, the late Mrs. Klaudeen Hansen. You can find Lori’s quilts featured in: McCall’s Quilting, Quiltmaker, and Fons & Porter’s Quick & Easy Quilts magazines.

Lori has numerous patterns & books available on her website: her first self-published quilt book entitled, ©Speedy Solutions to Cut & Organize Your Scrap Stash! and her second self-published book, Scrappy Speedy Solutions Patterns, which includes 12 wonderful scrap quilt patterns from which a quilter can use Lori’s “©Speedy Solutions Techniques” to create gorgeous quilts! She invites you to stop by her website or her YouTube channel and begin your own scrap stash quilting journey!

Lori’s lecture will walk us through the process of 'Four Fast & Easy Methods' of getting our scraps used and made into gorgeous scrappy quilts! We'll be inspired to get into our sewing room and get to work on our next beautiful scrappy creation! Throughout the lecture, Lori has many tips and tricks to share, along with a trunk show of colorful scrappy quilts to inspire us!
