We invite you to join us for our March 10, 2027 STBA day.
In the morning, we will feature one of our cruise presenters from our Virtual Cruise on the Rhine River, which took place in January 2027. More information about which presenter will be featured will be included in the weekly updates and monthly newsletters.
In the afternoon, we welcome Julie McLeod as our speaker. Julia is a quilt maker, presenter, instructor, quilt judge and author living and working in Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area.
She specializes in making quilts from rescued textiles, particularly silks. Neckties, saris, kimonos and furnishing fabrics all find their way into her quilts. Born and raised in England, Julia worked as a menswear textile designer in Yorkshire and Scotland, and on Savile Row, in the heart of London’s bespoke tailoring industry. She moved to New York City in the early 1990’s, and America has been her home ever since.
Julia enjoys lecturing and teaching on the subject of quilting-making with unusual and reclaimed textiles. Her first book, from C&T Publishing, is ‘Patchwork Luxe: Quilts from Neckties, Kimonos and Sari Silks’.
In her lecture today Julie will share - "Patchwork Luxe: Silk Quilts Through the Ages". From treasured neckties to shimmering kimonos and saris, silk has found its way into quilts for centuries. Join Julie on a journey along the “Silk Road” to explore the history of silk in patchwork, see inspiring examples past and present, and learn techniques for working with this most luxurious fabric.
