Sewing Together But Apart with Darlene Price and Jo Avery

We invite you to join us for our January 13, 2026 STBA day.

In the morning, our speaker will be Darlene Price, from Chesapeake, Virginia. Her presentation is called "From UFO to Useful". In this lecture, Darlene shares creative ways to transform your "Unfinished Objects" (UFOs) into completed projects.

During this session, we'll brainstorm ideas to help you finish your UFOs and also draw inspiration from examples of completed projects. Please bring one of your UFOs to the session to help inspire you.

Darlene Price has been sewing all her life, primarily clothes and curtains. After she retired as a Commercial Real Estate Paralegal her goal was to figure out quilting. In 2013, armed with a needle, thread, and cardboard templates she embarked on her first quilt. After making a few quilts and still wanting to sew, she turned her attention to art quilts and learning and teaching new techniques.

In the afternoon, we are excited to welcome Jo Avery back to share her lecture on "Temperature Quilts and Beyond". Jo comes to us from Linlithgow, Scotland and was one of our keynote speakers for our January 2026 Virtual Cruise. We have invited her to join us again to share one of her inspiring lectures.

A temperature quilt is created by assigning certain fabrics to specific temperatures. These are used to record daily temperatures in your local area in the current year but could also represent another place or time entirely. Using her own hands-on experience Jo will be sharing practical advice on how to go about starting this project along with many amazing examples of different temperature quilt approaches including some that add in other daily weather and mood aspects. She will also highlight the numerous other craft techniques that can be used for recording temperature.

This promises to be a really fund day. Hope you are able to join us.
