Sewing Together But Apart with Marci Baker and Lisa Ruble

We invite you to join us for our November STBA day.

Our morning speaker is Marci Baker, who joins us from Fort Collins, Colorado. She will share her lecture called -"Top Secet Bindings - Plus". She began teaching quilting in 1989 for her local quilt guild. Marci has applied her love of math (she has a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in applied mathematics) to her love of quilting to develop easier ways for quilting success.Through her excellent teaching skills, her students learn new and exciting methods that simplify and improve their quilting.

Teaching quilting is Marci’s true passion and she travels to anywhere there are quilters. Acrossthe US and Canada, from Brazil to Dubai, she has shared her expertise. Online you can see her inaction on The Quilt Show, Creative Spark, and videos on her website.

In this presentation, Marci will share some more advanced binding that does more than just finish the edge of our quilts. Explore different widths plus angles other than 90 degree, inside corners, fully machine-completed bindings, and finishing odd shaped items. Walk away with ideas and inspiration for bindings that add pizzazz to your design. This lecture will be 1.5 hours in length - because of the "plus" ideas she shares.

In the afternoon we welcome Lisa Ruble, from Battle Creek, Missouri as our speaker. Lisa tells us that she was bitten by the craft bug early on in life. She has dabbled in drawing, beading, photography, and fabric. She learned to sew as a young girl, making clothes for her Cabbage Patch Kid, and then got into quilting about 22 years ago and never looked back. Modern quilting is her style of choice, and she particularly loves improv piecing. She currently freelances in the quilting industry, designing, writing and editing patterns, and she also designs fabric with Benartex and designs and sells her own quilt patterns.

Her lecture today is called "Strippy Improv". This trunk show focuses on quilts Lisa made using the strippy improv quilting technique. She will talk about how she started creating quilts using this method, which combines improv piecing and reverse applique. She will share the various quilts and small projects she has stitched, including her most popular pattern, Strippy Improv Holiday, and show all of the possibilities available using this technique (hint: it’s great for sewing with kids too!).
